Everything You Need to Know Before Visiting Simplicity Bay, Mustique
The first thing to know before visiting Simplicity Bay, Mustique is that it's defined by its homes. We list three villas with our Simplicity Bay collection, each in a very different style: Zinnia, a Messel-designed house with two pools; Blackstone, a Balinese-inspired hillside retreat; and Sleeping Dragon, a five-acre estate of pavilions. Around them is a small, private island where everything is close.
Here's what we tell guests before they arrive.
Where Simplicity Bay Fits on Mustique
Simplicity Bay is one of the named areas of Mustique, and on an island this size, the details of position matter less than you might expect. Mustique covers only about 5.7 square kilometres. Around 500 people live there, and golf carts and ATVs are the usual way to get around.
Rather than describe Simplicity Bay from a map, we'd point you to what our listings confirm. All three homes have their own pools and a private chef, and our listings put each of them within about 1.7 km of Macaroni Beach. Blackstone is less than a kilometre from Lovell and Britannia Bay, while Zinnia is about 1.2 km from Britannia Bay. In other words, Britannia Bay, Lovell village and one of the island's best-known beaches are all a short ride away.
The Three Homes in Our Simplicity Bay Collection
These are luxury homes for rent with very different personalities, so the right choice depends on who's travelling and how you like to spend your days.
Zinnia: Messel Heritage and Two Pools
Zinnia was designed by Oliver Messel, the designer whose work shaped much of Mustique's early character. The house is arranged across three buildings in landscaped gardens, which gives everyone a sense of their own space. It's positioned to take in wide views across the Caribbean Sea toward St. Vincent.
Outdoors, two swimming pools are set into the grounds, and wraparound balconies give you shaded places to sit at any hour. Messel's signature details run throughout, from decorative murals to intricate fretwork. A media room and a ping pong table round things out. Service includes a housekeeper, gardener, private chef and butler, plus our concierge.
Blackstone: A Balinese-Inspired Hillside Retreat
Blackstone sits in an elevated position with sweeping 270-degree views. Its architecture is open and flowing, with rich natural materials, dark wood floors and large openings that pull your eye outward.
A fan-shaped swimming pool anchors the outdoor living area, set among landscaped grounds with ornamental ponds. A shaded dining gazebo is placed to take in the view, and inside, an open-plan great room flows out to the terrace. There's a pool table and a media room for slower evenings, and two Kawasaki Mules for getting around the island. Staff includes a housekeeper, gardener, private chef, butler and property manager.
Sleeping Dragon: An Estate of Pavilions
Sleeping Dragon is an estate in every sense: five acres of landscaped gardens overlooking the ocean. Coral pathways link six separate pavilions, and a 70-foot infinity pool sits at the centre, bordered by a coral sundeck and two gazebos.
The design blends classical Chinese influences with Caribbean architecture. The main living pavilion has high ceilings and ocean-facing verandahs front and back. There's also a dedicated dining pavilion, a private gym, a media room and a children's activity area. Our listing notes a reef offshore for snorkelling, reached via the rugged shoreline near the estate when sea conditions allow, and puts Macaroni Beach within about a five-minute drive.
Which Simplicity Bay Villa Suits You
Each home answers a different kind of trip. In our experience:
- Design lovers and multi-generational families gravitate to Zinnia, where three buildings and two pools give everyone room.
- Couples and friends who want views and a calm, contemporary feel tend to choose Blackstone.
- Larger families often prefer Sleeping Dragon, whose separate pavilions, gym and children's area make it a family-friendly villa with real privacy for each household.
Planning Your Visit to Mustique
Getting to Mustique takes a little planning. The island has its own small airport, and there's a ferry from St. Vincent. Our listings put St. Vincent's Argyle International Airport about 31.6 km away, across the water, and many guests connect there before the final leg.
The driest and busiest months generally run from December through April. Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30. Sea turtles are also known to nest on some of Mustique's beaches, and our concierge can advise on seeing them respectfully if your visit coincides with the season.
With only three homes in our Simplicity Bay collection, peak weeks can book early. Every villa we offer is personally inspected before it joins, and we check each one again before your stay. If you'd like to see more of the region, our guide to St. Vincent and the Grenadines covers the wider island chain.
